Trilegiant Identity Theft Protection: To Get Or Not To Get

Numerous companies offering identity theft protection have cropped up lately and are offering a myriad of services which they guarantee are useful to you. One of the companies offering protection against identity theft is the Trilegiant Identity Theft Protection.

What is the Trilegiant Identity Theft Protection?

It is a credit-monitoring service. For this service, you need to pay almost $13 a month to get their protection.

What services do they offer?

They can give you a thorough report on your personal credit, which contains information from three bureaus. They give daily reports on their monitoring of the three bureaus as well as quarterly updates. Lastly, they offer an insurance of $10000 for expenses you will incur in case of identity theft.

Comments

While the Trilegiant Identity Theft Protection seem like a decent service, its service is limited and does not seem substantial. So, I think the price is too high for the low level of service they offer. Furthermore, their credit alert service is handled by Wells Fargo, and this company is now known to have placed in danger the personal information of their customers over the years. That is not to say that the situation has not been remedied but with a track record like that, I wouldn’t want to entrust my personal information to them.

Recommendation

Honestly, I do not think trilegiant’s service is worth it. There are other companies with wider and better services who do not only offer credit monitoring and not merely $10000 of insurance but up to $1M worth of insurance in case of identity theft. What’s more, they only cost around $9 a month. That seems like only a $4 difference between their prices but the extensiveness of the service they provide is world’s apart.

Well and good, right? So, is there also a Free Identity Theft Protection around?

There are no companies that provide free identity theft protection but most of the things they do for you can be done on your own. Credit monitoring can also be done by you not just by companies. You make use of receipts, slips and other proofs of purchase to keep track of your credit. To protect yourself from identity theft you can try to be more careful and cautious with regards to your personal information.

In the end, the choice is up to you. You can choose to avail the service of insurance companies for your own peace of mind but you can also choose to do-it-yourself!
